| "On gardens, tender plants and other stuff" |
| (Irene) |
| |
Bright eyed and eager setting forth |
I saw the ghosts of those like me |
Happy to spend all waking hours |
And dream of setting young minds free. |
| |
To plot and plan was their delight |
To make the learning full of fun |
To watch the children grow like seeds |
Their petals facing to the sun. |
| |
But where are all those gardeners now? |
Where is the rake? Where is the hoe? |
Where is the tender loving care |
With time to let the children grow? |
| |
No time to finish what's begun |
No time to lend a listening ear. |
It's very scientific now |
The plants are measured every year! |
| |
The sunflower flops, it needs support |
The wilting flower must wilt away. |
"Tomorrow she will be this us |
The watering can's not ours today". |
| |
"Untried maybe but never mind" |
The Owner says "The Plan is good" |
The Gardener's filled in all her forms, |
The Gardener's doing as she should. |
| |
Head Gardener, busy with her notes |
Arranging this year's Flower Show, |
Has hardly noticed how some plants |
Are finding that it's hard to grow. |
| |
The Gardener is feeling sad |
Unhappy with her garden too |
"This garden's getting full of weeds |
This isn't what she came to do". |
| |
Yet those who's head will rule their heart |
Will say "I did the best I could. |
And really it is not all bad, |
Some plants are growing, as they should". |
| |
But those who's hearts will rule their head |
Will wonder how they'll meet the eye |
Of child, when man, when he will ask |
"How could you stand and watch me die?" |
| |
And some will leave for fresher fields, |
God's garden, lilies in the wood. |
And rediscover nature's ways |
Where all is growing as it should. |
They'll find out there the world is kind |
The rubbish has been left behind. |

| "Our First Kiss " |
| (Touch) |
|
I’ve been dreaming of you so much, |
and dreaming of our first touch, |
The way you slipped your hand in mine, |
as our souls gently entwined. |
| |
Then you opened your bright eyes, |
as I looked so deep into your soul, |
I could see your beauty within, |
like the beauty of your fine skin. |
|
I thought angels only lived in heaven, |
but now there’s one in my arms. |
I didn’t know what to say, |
I case I frighten you away. |
| |
I never knew a love like this, |
as I waiting for our first kiss. |
then you drew your lips so close to mine, |
with a kiss so divine. |
|
With your warm face touching mine, |
you whispered words so heavenly, |
with a voice just meant for me, |
full of love and sincerity. |
|
What is happening to me? |
is this some silly dream? |
will I suddenly awake? |
to find it's some silly mistake? |
|
As you cuddled close to me, |
your warm soft body comforts me, |
I could feel your strong heart beat, |
with a rhythm so sweet. |
|
Then your perfume filled the air, |
as you gently touched my hair, |
combing all my fears away, |
so no more tears for yesterday. |
|
Why does my heart still miss a beat, |
each time we meet or speak, |
and when your not with here me, |
I am lost and feel so empty. |
|
I was just about to speak, |
as a tear rolled down your cheek, |
and when you said you had to go, |
was like loosing my own soul. |
|
Then you said with a warm smile, |
it will only be for a short while, |
and soon you’ll be back with me, |
and will stay for eternity. |
|
I thought angels only lived in heaven, |
but now you’re here in my arms. |
I will make you so happy, |
and safe from all life’s harms. |
|
And when we’re old and grey |
we’ll remember how we feel today, |
with our children by our side, |
full of love and full of pride |
|
And when its time to go to heaven, |
holding hands we’ll go together, |
our true love will see us through, |
we’ll be will be just me and you. |
|
And what I will remember is |
the memory of our first kiss. |
as you drew your lips so close to mine. |
with a kiss so divine, |
|

Limitations" |

Our only limitations are our fears. |

|
| "Our
Love" |
| (Louise
Hay) |
| |
We have
so much love in this world, |
and we have so much love in our hearts, |
and sometimes we forget. |
Sometimes we think there isn't enough, |
or there is just a small amount. |
So we hoard what we have, |
or we are afraid to let it go. |
We are afraid to let it out. |
But those of us who are willing to learn, |
realise that the more love we allow to flow out from us, |
the more there is within us and the more we receive. |
It is endless and timeless. |
Love is really the most powerful healing force that there is. |
Without love we could not survive at all. |
If little ting babies are not given love and affection, |
they wither and die. |
Most of us think we can survive without love, |
but we cannot. |
Love for ourselves is the power that heals us. |
Practice as much as you
can. |

| "Really
Gone?" |
| (Deborah
Page) |
| |
| |
There's a spare
place at the table |
Where you used to
eat with me |
The Spurs mug's
never out now |
That you used to
drink your tea |
The Bed seems so
much bigger now |
That I'm sleeping
all alone |
The clock says
6:45 am |
But I know you'll
not come home |
The sofa has a
dent in it |
Where you used to
rest your arm |
The clock
upstairs.. just a radio |
And not your walk
alarm |
No football on the
tele now |
Nor fishing, golf
or rugby |
Watching's not the
same anymore |
That you're no
longer with me |
I seem to be quite
normal |
From a strangers
point of view |
Inside my heart is
breaking |
Every tome I think
of you |
But there's a new
star up in heaven |
Clearly visible in
the velvet sky |
Its beauty shines
so brightly |
It makes me want
to cry |
But they are only
selfish tears |
Because you really
are alright |
I know you're with
friends and family |
When I talk to you
at night |
Your non-stop
jokes and laughter |
Keep running
through my mind |
It's like you're
still here with me |
But just a step
behind |
As long as I have
memories |
You're never for
away |
And I know we'll
be together again |
At the closing of
my day |
So keep your
starlight shining |
So I can see you
every night |
By guiding light
to heaven |
Sleep well my
love, goodnight. |

time to ..." |
| (anonymous) |
| |
Take time to think; it is the source of power. |
Take time to need; it is the foundation of wisdom. |
Take time to play; it is the secret of staying young. |
Take time to be quiet; it is the opportunity to seek thy soul. |
Take time to be aware; it is the opportunity to help others. |
Take time to love and be loved; it is God's greatest gift. |
Take time to laugh; it is the music of the soul. |
Take time to be friendly; it is the road to happiness. |
Take time to dream; it is what the future is made of. |
Take time to meditate; it is the greatest power on earth. |

1. Thou shalt not be
perfect or even try to be. |
2. Thou shalt not try
to be all things to all people. |
3. Thou shalt sometimes leave things undone that ought to be
done. |
4. Thou shalt not spread thyself too thinly. |
5. Thou shalt learn to say "No", |
6. Thou shalt schedule time for thyself and for your
supportive network. |
7. Thou shalt switch off and do nothing regularly. |
8. Thou shalt be boring, untidy, inelegant, and unattractive,
at times. |
9. Thou shalt not even feel guilt. |
10. Especially, thou shalt not be thine own worst enemy but be thine own best friend. |

It
doesn't interest me what you do for a living. |
I want to
know what you ache for, and if you are to dream of meeting your
heart's longing. |
It
doesn't interest me how old you are. |
I want to
know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream,
for the adventure of being alive. |
| |
It
doesn't me what planets are squaring your moon. |
I want to
know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have
been opened by life's betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain,
mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it. |
I want to
know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with
wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers
and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to
remember the limitations of being human. |
| |
It
doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. |
I want to
know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you
can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if
you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy. |
| |
I want to
know if you can see beauty, even when it's not pretty, every day,
and if you can source your own life from its presence. |
I want to
know if you can live with failure, your and mine, and still stand on
the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon,
"Yes!" |
| |
It
doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you
have. |
| |
I want to
know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary
and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the
children. |
| |
It
doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. |
I want to
know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not
shrink back. |
| |
It
doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. |
I want to
know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away. |
| |
I want to
know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the
company you keep in the empty moments. |

| "The
Lord's Prayer" |
| (This is a
translation of the Lord's Prayer from Syriac Aramaic, which is possibly
the closest existing version to the prayer that Jesus spoke - the
translator Neil Douglas-Klotz has attempted to maintain some of the
Aramaic rhythms and nuances of meaning). |
| |
O
Thou, the Breath, the Light of All, |
Let
this Light create a heart-shrine within. |
And
you Counsel rule 'til Oneness guides all'. |
Your
One desire then acts with ours, as in all light, so in all forms. |
Grant
what we need, each day, in bread and insight. |
Loose
the cords of mistakes binding us, as we release the strands we hold
of other's faults. |
Don't
let surface things delude us. |
But
keep us from unripe acts. |
To
you belongs the ruling mind, |
the
life than can act and do, |
the
song that beautifies all, |
from
age to age it renews. |
In
faith, I will to be true. |

| "The
Man in the Glass" |
| (a Canadian Poem) |
| |
When
you get what you want |
in
your struggle for self,
|
And
the world makes you king for a day;
|
Just
go to the mirror and look at yourself,
|
And
see what that man has to say. |
| |
For
it isn’t your father or mother or wife,
Whose
judgement upon you must pass;
|
The
fellow whose verdict
|
counts
most in your life |
Is
the one staring back from the glass.
|
| |
You
may fool the whole world
|
down
the pathway of years. |
And
get pats on the back as you pass;
|
But
your final reward
|
will
be heartache and tears,
|
If
you’ve cheated that man in the glass |
| |

| "The
Willow" |
| (Touch) |
| |
The wind blows through the leaves, |
as the branches talk to me; |
Telling of their deep sorrow, |
about what will be on the morrow. |
| |
Tragedy beseech this land, |
all because the greed of man; |
Why doth not man awake, |
before the earth doth quake. |
| |
I thought my sorrow was to blame, |
as I hold my head in shame; |
But I see through my tears, |
its caused by all our fears. |
| |
And I thought the willow only cried for me. |

| "Think
it Over" |
| (Ron
Bird) |
| |
Today we have
higher buildings and wider highways |
But shorter
temperaments and narrower points of view. |
| |
We spend more,
but enjoy less. |
We have bigger
houses, but smaller families. |
We have more
compromises, but less time. |
We have more
knowledge, but less judgement. |
We have more
medicines, but less health. |
| |
We have
multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. |
We talk much, we
love only a little, and we hate too much. |
| |
We reached the
Moon and came back, but |
we find it
troublesome to cross our own street and meet our neighbours. |
We have
conquered the outer space, but not our inner space. |
| |
We have higher
income, but fewer morals |
These are times
with more liberty, but less joy. |
We have much
more food, but less nutrition. |
| |
These are the
days, in which it takes two incomes for each home, |
but divorces
increase. |
These are times
of finer houses, but more broken homes. |
| |
THAT IS WHY I
PROPOSE, THAT AS OF TODAY, |
| |
You do not keep
anything for a special occasion, because |
everyday that
you live is a SPECIAL OCCASION. |
| |
Search for
knowledge, read more, sit on your front porch |
and admire the
view without paying attention to your needs. |
| |
Spend more time
with your family and friends, |
eat your
favourite foods, |
visit the places
you love. |
| |
Life is a chain
of moments of enjoyment; |
Not only about
survival. |
Use your crystal
goblets. |
Do not save your
best perfume, |
And use it every
time you feel you want it. |
| |
Remove from your
vocabulary phrases like "one of these day" |
And
"someday". |
Let's write that
letter we thought of writing "one of these days". |
| |
Let's tell our
families and friends how much we love them. |
Do not delay
anything that adds laughter and joy to your life. |
Every day, every
hour and every minute is special. |
| |
And you don't
know if it will be your last. |
If you're too
busy to take the time to send this message to |
someone you love
and you tell yourself you will send it "one of these
days". |
| |
Just think
.......... "One of these days" |
| |
|

| "Time
is Eternity" |
| (read by Lady Jane Fellow
at the funeral of Diane Princess of Wales) |
| |
Time is too slow |
For those who wait, |
Too swift |
For those who fear, |
Too long for those who grieve, |
Too short |
For those who rejoice, |
But for those who love, |
Time is eternity. |

| "Today" |
| (with kind permission of The Osmond Family) |
| |
I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before
the clock |
strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfil
today. |
I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am
going to have. |
| |
Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or |
I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for
free. |
| |
Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or... |
I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my |
purchases wisely and guide me away from waste. |
| |
Today I can grumble about my health or... |
I can rejoice that I am alive. |
| |
Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't |
give me when I was growing up or... |
I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born. |
| |
Today I can cry because roses have thorns or... |
Or can celebrate that thorns have roses. |
| |
Today I can mourn my lack of friends or... |
I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new
relationships. |
| |
Today I can whine because I have to go to work or... |
I can shout for joy because I have a job to do. |
| |
Today I can complain because I have to go to school or... |
eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new
titbits of
knowledge. |
| |
Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or |
I can appreciate that I have a place to call home. |
| |
Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. |
And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping. |
| |
What today will be like is up to me. |
I get to choose what kind of day I will have! |
| |

|
| (An historic address given by the American Indian, Chef Seattle, to the 'white man') |
| |
Teach your children what we have taught our children: |
that the earth is our true mother. |
Whatever happens to the earth, happens to the children of
the earth. |
If people spit on the ground, they spit on themselves. |
We know: |
the earth does not belong to people, but people belong to
the earth. |
We know: |
everything is joined together in some way, like the blood
that runs through a family. |
Whatever happens to the earth, happens to the children of
the earth. |
We did not weave the web of life; we are just a strand in
it. |
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. |
| |
|
|
| (Touch) |
| |
We need hope to help us cope |
We need strength to carry on |
We need help to calm our fears |
We need friends to dry our tears |
|
We need truth to give us our solace |
We need forgiveness to be at peace |
We need peace to find tranquillity |
We need to listen to our inner voice |
|
We need to ask when we need help |
We need love when times are tough |
We need to know we are not alone |
We need to grow to reach our potential |
|
We need dreams to learn our future |
We need trust to follow our intuition |
We need vision to see our future |
We need time to reach our destiny |

| "When things go
wrong" |
| (anonymous) |
| |
When things go wrong as they sometime will, |
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, |
When the funds are low, ad the debts are high, |
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, |
When care is pressing you down a bit; |
Rest if you must, but don't you quit. |
Success is failure, turned inside out, |
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, |
And you never can tell how close you are, |
If may be near when is seems afar, |
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit; |
It's when things go wrong that, you mustn't quit. |

| "Wisdom
of the Elders" |
| (Oraibi, Arizona Hopi Nation) |
| |
There is a river flowing now very fast. |
It is so great and swift, that there are those who will be afraid. |
They will try to hold onto the shore. |
They will feel they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly. |
Know the river has its destination. |
The elders say we must let go of the shore, |
push off into the middle of the
river, |
keep our eyes open, |
and our heads above the water. |
| |
And I say, see who is in there with you
and celebrate. |
At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally. |
Least of all, ourselves. |
For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to
a halt. |
The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! |
Banish the word 'struggle' from your attitude and your vocabulary. |
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in
celebration. |
WE ARE THE ONES WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. |

not Here" |
| (anonymous) |
| |
Far beyond the sky |
You are there I know |
Above the clouds on high |
One day I'll find you there |
| |
Alone I stay behind |
Alone for just how long? |
With you always on my mind |
And love just gaining time |
| |
You're not here |
| |
Long lone time ago |
When we were oh so young |
I just held your hand |
Had our life just begun |
| |
You were born for me |
Always to be mine |
Never just to know |
How much you meant to me |
| |
And time will never heal |
The love that I have lost |
The love I felt for you |
Is a life how much it cost |
| |
You're not here |
You're not here |
